PlayStation has announced a new system update for the PlayStation Portal that introduces cloud streaming in beta. This update allows PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream select PS5 games directly from PlayStation’s servers, even without owning a PS5 console.
The beta will include over 120 PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, including Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Games can be streamed in up to 1080p at 60fps, with full support for DualSense features like haptics, adaptive triggers, and motion controls.
The update also brings audio refinements, such as more precise volume control for the Portal’s speakers and new options to adjust PlayStation Link device settings. Save data will sync with the cloud, allowing for up to 100GB of storage and seamless transitions between devices.
Cloud streaming on the Portal is available to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers in regions including the US, UK, Japan, and several European countries. The update begins rolling out today, with availability in Europe starting Wednesday.
To access the Cloud Streaming (Beta) on PlayStation Portal, you’ll need the device itself, a PlayStation Network account, and an active PlayStation Plus Premium membership. A stable Wi-Fi connection with minimum upload and download speeds of 5 Mbps is required to start streaming. For higher-quality streaming, you’ll need 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p.
Once the beta is live, update your PS Portal to the latest system software, enable Cloud Streaming in the settings menu, and access streamed games directly from the Home screen. You can disable the beta at any time, returning the Portal to its standard settings.
It’s important to note that the beta is limited to PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Features like Game Trials, streaming purchased games, and PS4/PS3 game support are not included. Other limitations include the absence of Party voice chat, game invites for select titles, and 3D audio.
This beta marks the early stages of testing, and features may evolve as Sony refines the experience.
